So, I’ve just watched a new movie directed by Stephen Chow! If you all know, he’s a really great comedian actor and quite old now, so yup, he’s directing and producing movies!
The new movie that I’ll be talking about is Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons.
From what Stephen said, it’s a remake of Chinese Odyssey and yeah, includes music from Chinese Odyssey and is an awesome movie! Again, yes.
This movie stars:
Wen Zhang as Tang Sanzang
Shu Qi as Miss Duan
Huang Bo as Sun Wukong (Monkey King)
Chen Bing Chiang as KL Hog/Pig Demon
Lee Sheung Ching as Sand Monk/Fish Demon
Show Luo as Prince Important
Xing Yu/Shi Yan Neng as Fist of the North Star
Zhang Chao Li as Almighty Foot
There was a long list of casts, but these are the ones I know that are more important.
Unlike other shows/movies that is based from Wu Cheng’en‘s book, Journey to the West, where the main character is Sun Wukong, this movie’s main character is actually in fast, Tang Sanzhang. Pretty awesome, right? LOL.
I won’t be writing anything about the movie so, if you want to read or learn more about the movie, click here. But, I will be writing my views and opinions on the movie, yes, it’s such a great movie that I loved!
First off, the directing, I think it’s so awesome! I’m a fan of Stephen Chow, and I sort of know his acting very well. Anyways, I noticed that Wen Zhang is such a great actor! His movements and acting in the movie very well portrayed a NEW Stephen Chow! From his running away from Duan, head movements, EVERYTHING I see, is exactly the same thing that Stephen will do. It’s just that awesome!
I just LOVE LOVE the CGI effects to death! Everything! Every single CGI!! I LOVE! Anyways, yes, CGI is something I love to see, even in movies and shows. This movie has very awesome CGI effects, making the Buddha hand crush onto Monkey King and showing the palm and everything, OMG, it’s just too great! And then the fish demon and pig demon, the effects are so darn awesome!
Casting, I think the casting was well done. Chosen the right people to be the correct role. What I was surprised to see was having Xing Yu/Shi Yan Neng in the movie again. Last time I saw him in one of Stephen’s movie was when I was watching Kungfu Hustle (He’s Chai Hu from Yi Zhi Mei, by the way). Shu Qi did an awesome job too. She was very good at her role and so was Wen Zhang.
Something I love from the movie is how Duan has like a family heirloom and uses it to kill the demons/ghosts/monsters and yeah, it can change it’s shape to fit anything. She can multiply the gold bracelet so that there are numerous amounts of it. I love this piece of accessory, it’s so beautiful and changes shapes, and multiplies. Awesome, right?
There were funny parts in the movies, of course, Stephen Chow directed it…
I love those funny parts, it makes me want to watch it over and over again! Next post will eventually probably be about those funny parts, it just cracks me up everytime!
There were even a story behind each demon! Yup, Fish Demon had his own story and so did Pig Demon, BUT Sun Wukong had no story at all, just about, a little mistake he made. So, a post on that will come up too, I think, lol, depends on the time I have.
One last thing about this movie. I think it was nicely done. I was surprised many times in the movie because of it’s greatness. The settings were awesome, everything about the movie, I like it all. I don’t think there was one bit that I don’t like about the movie, that’s why, on my About Me page, it’s listed as my favorite movie. Yup, of course it is.
Now… time for some sneak peeks from the movie!! YAYY!!
Yes, these are awesome, right? And now, our main leads! Shu Qi and Wen Zhang as Miss Duan and Tang Sanzhang.
Our female lead, about to dance in the beautiful moonlight!
Our male lead, in his sunglasses. (If you ask me, he has weird and funny hilarious sunglasses, but can’t blame him, he’s trying to be as Ancient Chinese based as possible)
